DMCA & Takedown Policy

YT Downloader respects intellectual property rights. This page explains our copyright policy, how to submit a valid DMCA takedown notice, and how to file a counter-notification.

Last updated: October 2026

Our Stance on Copyright

YT Downloader is a tool that enables users to download publicly accessible media for personal and archival use only. We do not host, cache, transcode, or redistribute copyrighted media on our servers beyond the transient 24-hour file retention window. We cooperate fully with legitimate DMCA notices and promptly review all valid submissions.

How YT Downloader Works

When a user submits a URL, our application uses yt-dlp to extract a direct stream URL from YouTube's servers and downloads the media file temporarily to our disk. The file is made available for the requesting user to download for up to 24 hours, after which it is automatically and permanently deleted. We do not create a public library of downloadable media. Each download is a unique, transient, user-initiated operation.

We do not provide URLs that allow public access to downloaded filesβ€”each file download link is an authenticated UUID-based token accessible only within the requesting browser session.

Filing a DMCA Takedown Notice

If you believe that content downloaded or made available through our service infringes your copyright, you may submit a takedown notice under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. Β§ 512). To be valid, your notice must include all of the following:

  1. Your full legal name and contact information, including a valid mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
  2. A description of the copyrighted work that you claim has been infringed, including registration numbers or other identifying information if available.
  3. A description of the infringing material and information reasonably sufficient to permit us to locate the material.
  4. A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  5. A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.
  6. Your physical or electronic signature.
Warning: Misrepresentation

Under Section 512(f) of the DMCA, any person who knowingly materially misrepresents that content is infringing may be liable for damages, including costs and attorney fees. Submit only valid, good-faith claims.

Filing a Counter-Notification

If you believe your content was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notification. To be valid, your counter-notification must include:

  1. Your full name, address, telephone number, and email address.
  2. Identification of the material that was disabled and its location before it was disabled.
  3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief that the material was disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
  4. A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the judicial district in which your address is located.
  5. Your physical or electronic signature.

Designated DMCA Agent

DMCA notices and counter-notifications must be submitted to our designated copyright agent. Use the Contact page to reach our DMCA agent. Please mark your message clearly as "DMCA Takedown Notice" or "DMCA Counter-Notification."

Repeat Infringers

We maintain a policy of terminating service access for users who are identified as repeat copyright infringers. Rate-limiting and IP blocking may be applied to users who repeatedly submit infringing download requests after receiving notice.

Non-Infringing Purposes

Downloading video content for personal archiving, academic research, commentary, criticism, news reporting, and other fair-use or fair-dealing purposes is generally protected under copyright law in many jurisdictions. Our Terms of Service require users to verify they have appropriate rights before downloading content.
